HILLSBORO, Texas – The Trinity men's and women's cross country teams continued to build on their success during the 2025 season, including today's Hill Cross Country Classic, hosted by Hill College (TX) on Friday night.
The Tiger women finished second and the men were fifth among mostly non-Division III competition, even though the top runners on the teams did not compete on Friday. Trinity's women scored 71 points to finish behind Dallas Baptist University (TX) in the 5K race, but well in front of the rest of the field – leading third-place Blinn College (TX) by more than 40 points. Dallas Baptist also won the men's 8K race and Trinity's 131 points were just two points shy of fourth and 15 behind a spot in third.
First-year
Ciandra Catton (Leander, Texas / Leander) led a group of four Tiger women in the top 25 individually, finishing 11th in a time of 20:02.4 in the race. Junior
Allison Fortman (McKinney, Texas / Boyd) was 18th in 20:41.3, followed closely by two more first-year runners:
Merritt Moore (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock) in 20th with a time of 20:51.0 and
Maddie Jones (Austin, Texas / McNeil) with a time of 21:01.5 that was good for 24th.
Junior
Garrett Machado (Seguin, Texas / Seguin) paced the men's runners for Trinity, finishing in 30th place with a time of 27:39.8. Senior
Luke Whitfill (Overland Park, Kan. / The Barstow School) was next among Tiger runners in 35th place after crossing the line at 27:51.1 on Friday night. First-years
Henry Stevens (The Woodlands, Texas / Providence Classical School) and
Nico Murphy (Cedar Park, Texas / Vista Ridge) were next in 39th and 41st, finishing in 28:02.4 and 28:07.8, respectively.
Two more first-years were among the next three finishers for the women, and each finished in the top 35 individually. First-year
Scarlett Berthelot (Tomball, Texas / Tomball) was 30th in a time of 21:19.3, followed by senior
Alexandria Alcott (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Northern Oaks) in 21:29.4 for 32nd place, and first-year
Eva Scheer (Arcadia, Okla. / Casady School) in 21:34.2 for 34th overall. Next up on the men's side were sophomore
Trevor Kuhlman (Lake Jackson, Texas / Brazoswood) with a time of 28:23.9 and first-year
Chase Vogler (Allen, Texas / Allen) in 28:45.9 in the 8K race.
