Tiger Football Jumps Into 2025 Season

The Trinity University Football Team opens their 2025 season in Seguin, Texas against Texas Lutheran.

Last Season

The Tigers finished the season with an 8–3 overall record (6–1 SAA) and captured their fourth straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) championship. They also advanced to the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. Over the course of the year, the Tigers outscored opponents 344–221, recorded 15 interceptions, and had 20 players earn All-SAA honors.

Tyler Huettel (McKinney, Texas / McKinney) headlined the awards list, earning SAA Special Teams Player of the Year recognition. He was also named an AFCA and D3football.com All-American, Walter Camp All-American, D3football.com All-Region honoree, a member of the All-Texas Non-FBS Team, and the AP Special Teams Player of the Year. Cade Rabson (The Woodlands, Texas / College Park) added to the accolades by earning spots on both the D3football.com All-American team and the All-Texas Non-FBS Team.

2025 Schedule

The Tigers will kick off their season on the road against Texas Lutheran on September 4 at 7:00 p.m. Their home opener follows on September 13, when they host Belhaven at 6:00 p.m. To wrap up non-conference play, Trinity will travel to Pacific Lutheran on September 20 for a noon (PT) kickoff.

After a bye week, the Tigers open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play at home against Southwestern on October 4 at Trinity Multi-Purpose Stadium. The following week, they head to Mount Berry for a key matchup with SAA favorite Berry College on October 11 at 6:00 p.m. (ET). Trinity's final regular-season home game is set for November 8 at 1:00 p.m. against Millsaps, before closing the schedule on the road at Maryville.

This Season

Despite the loss of some key pieces, the Tigers look to return to the top of the SAA standings this season. Wide receivers Alejandro Tavarez (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson), Tyson Hancock (Smithville, Texas / Smithville), and Lamont Nickleberry (Childress, Texas / Childress) all return to the receiver room. Johnny Milo (The Woodlands, Texas / Caney Creek) and Xae Huerta (San Antonio, Texas / Jay) will take on the running back duties. Meanwhile, up front, Caleb Bayer (Grandview, Texas / Grandview), Ryan Ainsworth (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal), and Connor Keele (Lampasas, Texas / Lampasas) will return to anchor the offensive line.

Defensively, TJ Scannell (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) and UMHB transfer Dorien Hill (Buda, Texas / Hays) will join as the linebackers. Pre-season All-American Jonathan Nwobodo (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point), as well as Steele Herndon (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) will lead the charge up front, looking to disrupt opposing offenses. With a solid core of returning talent and impact newcomers, the Tigers are well-positioned to contend for another conference title and make a deep playoff run.

Preview - Cats in the Dog House

The Tigers will open up their season in Seguin, Texas to take on Texas Lutheran on Thursday, September 4th at 7:00 PM.

On the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs: Last season, the Bulldogs posted an impressive 9–2 record (7–1 SCAC) and earned their first NCAA Playoff berth since 2014. After securing a first-round bye, Texas Lutheran was eliminated by Linfield in a 65–3 loss. Picked to win the SCAC again this year, the Bulldogs return nearly all of their top offensive weapons from last season.

Quarterback Caden Bosanko, who threw for nearly 2,000 yards and rushed for 696, is back to lead the offense after accounting for 24 total touchdowns. He averaged more than 20 pass attempts and 10 carries in seven of the team's 11 games last season. Senior running back Weston Guzman and senior wide receiver Caleb Camarillo also return after combining for 14 touchdowns in 2024.

On defense, the Bulldogs will need to replace leading tackler Grayson Kowalski, but they bring back key contributors in Troy Tomaselli and Deyreck Dean, who combined for 104 tackles. Tomaselli also anchored the secondary, finishing with a team-high four interceptions and five pass breakups. Last season, the Bulldogs bested the Tigers 35-20, marking their first win against TU since 2016. However, the Tigers hold a 19-14 overall record against Texas Lutheran.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will play their first home game against Belhaven on September 13th at 6:00 PM.
