Trinity Swimming & Diving Sets Their Eyes On Southwestern Dual Meet

This Saturday, January 17th, the Trinity Tigers will travel to Georgetown to face off against Southwestern University. This meet is especially exciting since Southwestern is following Trinity into their new conference, the SAA.

Meet Preview:

This meet against Southwestern follows the Tigers' meet in Danville, Kentucky last weekend, where they competed against many different teams, including Centre College, a fellow SAA member. Following this meet, three different athletes were named the athletes of the week. One such athlete is Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird), a senior swimmer on the team. She won both the 200 and 400 IM, and earned second place in the 200 breaststroke, each with some of her best dual meet times of the season. She additionally helped lead the Tigers' 800 free relay to victory, accompanied by Kaitlyn Phan (Austin, Texas / Westlake), Amy Benson (Newmarket, N.H. / Phillips Exeter Academy), and Julia Carter (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs). Each of these swimmers had an incredible performance in Kentucky, and it will be exciting to see what they can do this weekend!

The men's swimmer of the week was Luke Fender (Jackson, Miss. / St. Andrew's Episcopal), who also won the 800 free relay with teammates Theodore Ho (Sugar Land, Texas / Clements), Nathan Perez (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek), and William Walker (Houston, Texas / Westside). Fender also won the mile decisively, beating the rest of the field by over ten seconds and less than twenty seconds away from his lifetime best. He also earned second and third place respectively in the 200 free. Fender and his teammates will surely prove themselves yet again in Georgetown this weekend.

Last but certainly not least, Charlotte Brod (St. Louis, Mo. / Parkway North) won female diver of the week following her performance in Kentucky. She won fourth place on the 1 meter board, and second on the 3 meter. Her three meter performance is only a bit off of her best score, and her 1 meter was a personal best for the sophomore.

Each and every Tiger showed how much their hard work has been paying off after their meet last weekend, and it will be thrilling to watch their performance this weekend against Southwestern. Go Tigers!

Looking Forward:

January 24th marks Trinity's meet against the University of Incarnate Word, a division 1 school from right across the highway. This is not only an opportunity for the Tigers to go up against some strong competitors, but it is also Trinity's senior meet, and a sweet moment to honor their teammates who are graduating in May.
