MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Trinity University Women's Soccer team (12-1-1, 4-1-1 SAA) outshot Maryville College (6-4-4, 3-3-0 SAA) 28-6 but could not find the equalizer in a 1-0 conference loss Sunday at the MC Soccer Complex.
The Tigers came out pressing, with
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) testing the Maryville goalkeeper in the first minute. Trinity piled up chances early, but Maryville struck against the run of play in the 20th minute, scoring on its first shot of the match. Trinity responded by controlling the rest of the half, firing 17 shots and earning seven corners before the break.
Kylie Harris (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) and
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands) each forced saves, but the Scots' keeper made eight first-half stops to keep Maryville in front at halftime.
Trinity kept the pressure on after the break. Brackin had another effort saved in the 63rd minute. Between the 72nd and 77th minutes, the Tigers created their best stretch of chances.
Hailey Schlosser (San Jose, Calif. / Branham) hit the crossbar, and
Anna Newland (Kirkwood, Mo. / Kirkwood) and
Lia Bonet (Houston, Texas / Kinkaid) both put shots on frame. Each one was turned away, and Maryville held on for the final 20 minutes.
Trinity finished with a 14-3 edge in shots on goal and an 8-1 advantage in corners, but Maryville's goalkeeper made 14 saves. Brackin led the Tigers with seven shots, three on target, while Doran added four.
