GEORGETOWN, Texas – The No. 25 ranked Trinity University Women's Soccer Team opened SAA play in style with a 3-1 road win over Southwestern University on Tuesday, remaining perfect on the season at 9-0-0 and 1-0-0 in conference.
The Tigers wasted no time setting the tone in Georgetown, pinning the Pirates in their own half and outshooting them 16-2 in the first half. Trinity broke through in just the sixth minute when
Talia Camin (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) served in a corner kick.
Kylie Harris (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) won the header, and
Madisyn Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) flicked it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Less than 13 minutes later, the Tigers doubled their advantage.
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) took on the Southwestern back line, dribbling past a couple of defenders to find space at the top of the box, where she struck a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0 in the 18th minute.
The Tigers put another on the board just over three minutes later but unfortunately in the wrong net to put Southwestern on the board and cut the lead to 2-1 in the 22nd minute. Trinity continued to apply pressure for the rest of the half, with Doran rattling the crossbar in the 38th minute, but Southwestern goalkeeper kept the Pirates within one heading into the break.
The Tigers restored their two-goal cushion in the 63rd minute with a well-worked team goal.
Saige Clary (Houston, Texas / Episcopal) slipped a through ball to
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands), who ran onto it and laid it off first-time to Doran at the top of the box. Doran's shot deflected off the keeper, and Barganski was there to follow up the rebound for her second goal of the night and a 3-1 lead.
Colette Whitsitt (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) took over in goal for the second half, making three saves to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Trinity finished with a commanding 28-9 shot advantage, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal. Doran led the attack with a goal and an assist on six shots, while Barganski's brace powered the Tigers to a winning start in conference play.
