San Antonio, TEXAS – The Trinity track & field team will head to the University of Houston this Saturday for the FasTrak Collegiate Classic. This will be just their second meet of the calendar year, after the first FasTrak meet, scheduled for Jan. 24, was canceled due to icy weather conditions. It will be a chance for the Tigers to get back on track in competition as the SAA Indoor Championships draw nearer.
Looking ahead to the conference meet, the Tiger men were tabbed as preseason favorites to win the conference crown, garnering just two more votes than returning champs Centre College, and just three more votes than Berry College. In the two years that the SAA has sponsored indoor track championships, Centre has won both conference titles on their home track. It will more than likely come down to a dogfight between the Tigers and Colonels, who currently occupy almost all of the top spots on the SAA performance lists.
The Tiger women entered the year as slight preseason underdogs, outvoted by just one point to Centre. Once again, Berry occupies the third spot, down five points to the Tigers. The Colonels currently rank fifth in the nation, as Trinity's task may look a little taller than it did at the season's beginning. Centre currently occupies the top spot in eight of the 16 events with marks already recorded this year. Trinity, who won the fall's SAA Cross Country Championship going away, will look to dominate in the distance events to steal the title away from the returning champion Colonels.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will head back down to the University of Houston for the Howie Ryan Invitational on Feb. 13, where a smaller group of athletes will compete at a highly competitive meet as they gear up for the SAA Indoor Championships, beginning on Feb. 27.
