Women Tied for 1st, Men 2nd After Day One of SAA Track & Field Meet

DANVILLE, Ky. – Fierce competition has defined day one of the SAA Indoor Championships for the Trinity track & field teams. Already with three school records and lots of shifting around in the program's all-time top-10 list, day two promises to be action-packed. After day one, the women are tied for first with defending champions and host school Centre College, both with 50 points. With 38 points, the men sit in second behind Centre's 69 points.

Finals
Weight Throw
Trinity Jefferson (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) smashed her PR by almost two meters in the women's weight throw, snagging eighth with a toss of 13.89m to score the first point of the day for the Tigers. With her throw, she moves all the way up to second in school history. Her throw is the farthest by a Trinity freshman by over one and a half meters. Continuing the big day for Trinity's throwers, Ian Zahner (Thornton, Colo. / Stargate) threw for a massive PR of 15.26m to steal fourth place in the men's weight throw and set a new school record. Aaron Chang (Fullerton, Calif. / Valley Christian) also broke the previous school record, throwing for a PR of 14.36m to take seventh place. Zahner and Chang now sit at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in school history. Zahner's mark is the farthest recorded by a Trinity freshman by nearly three meters.

Long Jump
Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) took second in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.89m, earning her second long jump medal over her two conference meets. Isabella Gaylord (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) set a big PR of 5.26m to take seventh, moving into sixth in program history after breaking her tie with jumps coach Corey Wildman. In the men's long jump, Kaleem Howard (Jacksboro, Texas / Jacksboro) smashed his PR with a jump of 6.83m to take fourth. He moves into fourth in program history with the mark. Bocar Diagana (Edina, Minn. / Edina) snagged a point, finishing eighth with a PR jump of 6.50m, moving him into seventh in school history.

High Jump 
Christian Mullaney (Palisade, Colo. / Palisade) matched his PR of 1.90m in the men's high jump to take fifth. Andrew Mueller (Bakersfield, Calif. / Bakersfield Christian) was seventh, clearing 1.85m. Sophia Ortiz (Liberty Hill, Texas / Liberty Hill) took second in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.60m. 

5,000-Meter
Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) dusted the field to win the women's 5,000-meter, setting an all-conditions PR of 17:48.03 to set a new SAA Indoor Championships and facility record. She's now fourth in program history. Anne Snider (Waco, Texas / Live Oak Classical) set a big PR of 18:03.63, passing a Centre runner over the final meters to steal valuable points and finish second, also under the old SAA Indoor Championships record. She now sits seventh in school history. Sophia Munoz (Austin, Texas / Austin) earned sixth with a huge PR of 18:27.51, taking ninth in school history. Elijah Bliss (Garden Ridge, Texas / Davenport) put on a clinic in the men's 5,000-meter, setting a new PR of 15.16.75 to take second place and dip under the old SAA Indoor Championships record. He's now second in program history and the fastest freshman in Trinity history by nearly 30 seconds. Nathaniel Trevino (San Antonio, Texas / Central Catholic) set an indoor PR of 15:35.22 to take eighth place and move into eighth in school history. 

Distance Medley Relay
The women's DMR squad of Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics), Ciara Catton (Leander, Texas / Leander), Halle Hamilton (Craig, Colo. / Moffat County) and Emerson Voldan (Arlington, Texas / Mansfield Summit) cruised to a win, running a time of 12:16.30 to dip under the SAA Indoor Championships record. With the time, they crushed the school record and currently move into 25th in the nation. The men's DMR squad of Kyle Fix (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier), Jackson Gallagher (Ft. Worth, Texas / Southwest Christian), Jesus Rojas (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) and Thomas Melina Raab (Austin, Texas / McCallum) also secured an easy win with a time of 10:19.58, which moves them into second in program history and 23rd in the nation.

Prelims
60-Meter
In the women's 60-meter, Lanik qualified for the finals with the fastest time qualifier to take fourth, tying the school record of 7.79 in her collegiate debut in the event. Hudson McCulley (Katy, Texas / St. Pius X) won his heat of the men's 60-meter, matching his PR of 7.08 to move into the finals with a fourth-place finish. Charles Gooden (Pearland, Texas / Pearland) will also move on, taking the final time qualifier in a PR of 7.11 to take eighth, moving him into a tie for fourth in program history.

60-Meter Hurdles
Three Tigers will compete in the women's 60-meter hurdles finals tomorrow, led by Gaylord, who snatched a time qualifier in fourth with a PR of 9.40, tying her for third in school history. Ciandra Carrico (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) qualified on time, taking sixth in a PR of 9.74, keeping her at ninth in program history. Avery Parvin (San Antonio, Texas / Providence) will also compete tomorrow, grabbing a time qualifier in seventh with a big PR of 10.06 to move into ninth in school history. Kris Duggan (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) qualified easily in the men's 60-meter hurdles, taking the prelim win in an SAA Indoor Championships record of 8.29. Howard took the fastest time qualifier in third with a time of 8.46, slotting him in at fourth in school history in his collegiate debut in the event. Henry Selman (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) got through on time, taking fifth in 8.60, putting him at sixth in program history, also in his collegiate debut.

200-Meter
Lanik won her heat of the women's 200-meter in 25.29, breaking her own school record to take second overall and a big Q into tomorrow's finals. Shifa Daredia (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) snagged the fastest time qualifier, running a time of 26.30 to take sixth overall. Price Schultea (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Christian) won his heat of the men's 200-meter by nearly two seconds, grabbing a big Q and fifth overall with a time of 22.65 to cruise into tomorrow's finals. Orie Piken (Torrance, Calif. / West Torrance) took eighth and the only time qualifier in a time of 22.61.

400-Meter
Gaylord won her heat of the women's 400-meter by over two seconds to take a big Q into tomorrow's finals with a PR of 1:01.44. Lillian Broussard (Houston, Texas / National Christian) took the final time qualifier with a time of 1:01.74 and will also be competing in tomorrow's finals. In the men's 400-meter, Schultea won his heat in 51.68, taking a big Q into tomorrow's finals. Gallagher got the fastest time qualifier, running 50.73 to snag a spot in the finals.

Day 2 Preview
Tomorrow will see finals in three field events and eight running events across both teams. They've each outperformed expectations on day one and have put themselves in great position to have a go at Centre.
