WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The 11th-ranked Trinity University Women's Tennis Team opened the 2026 season with a commanding performance, sweeping 29th-ranked Whitman University 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Whitman Tennis Courts.
The Tigers wasted no time asserting control of the match, taking all three doubles contests to secure the opening point. First to finish was the top pairing of
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy), who set the tone with a convincing 6-2 victory at the #1 position. Moments later,
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) and
Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minnesota / Wayzata) followed with another solid performance at #2 doubles, earning a 6-2 win to keep momentum firmly on Trinity's side. The doubles sweep was capped at the #3 position, where
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) battled through a tight contest to close out a 7-5 victory and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Trinity carried that energy seamlessly into singles action, clinching the match quickly while maintaining control across the lineup. The first singles point came at #5, where Tin produced a strong performance to claim a 6-1, 6-2 win and double the Tigers' advantage. Shortly after,
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minnesota / Edina) added another point at #6 singles, cruising to a convincing 6-2, 6-0 victory. Momentum remained firmly with Trinity as Kovachev secured the clinching point at the #3 spot, posting a solid 6-4, 6-2 result to put the Tigers up 4-0 at the time. The next point followed at #4 singles, where Levy controlled the match from start to finish to earn a 6-2, 6-3 win. Although the match was already decided, the Tigers continued to compete at a high level to complete the sweep. At the top of the lineup, 14th-ranked Nabedrick earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at #1 singles, while Andrade, ranked 28th nationally, closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #2 singles.
With the season-opening sweep, Trinity begins the 2026 campaign undefeated, showcasing impressive depth and composure across both doubles and singles play.
