MONROEVILLE, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Trinity University women's tennis team delivered a poised and complete performance on Sunday morning, earning a 5-2 win over 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis at the Rashid Hassan Tennis Center.
Trinity and Case Western opened the match with competitive doubles play, as the opening point came down to the final court. The first match off the courts was at #1, where the 8th-ranked duo of
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif. / Weil Tennis Academy) were edged 6-1. The Tigers answered shortly after at #2, as
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) held firm down the stretch to secure a 6-4 victory and even the doubles race. The deciding match unfolded at #3, where
Allison Vo (Houston, Texas / Memorial) and
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) battled through a tightly contested set and prevailed 7-6 (9-7) over their opponents, clinching the doubles point and giving Trinity an early 1-0 advantage.
Singles play opened on the top court, where the 48th-ranked freshman Kovachev faced a tough test and fell 6-3, 6-2 to Kassaie, leveling the match at 1-1. Trinity quickly regained momentum at #4, as Levy turned in a dominant performance, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Biria to put the Tigers back in front. The next point came from #3, where Tin continued her strong day with a composed 6-2, 7-5 victory over Wong, extending Trinity's lead to 3-1.
The battle tightened at #2, as the 28th-ranked Andrade pushed the 50th-ranked Wang through two tiebreak sets but ultimately dropped a hard-fought three-set decision 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (7-9), 3-6, trimming the margin to one. Trinity sealed the team victory at #5, where Schmidt responded after splitting sets to earn a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 win over Markovic. The final match of the day concluded at #6, with freshman
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minn. / Edina) finishing strong and rallying past Lee 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 to close out the 5-2 result.
The Tigers' depth and resilience were on full display throughout the lineup, as Trinity responded well to yesterday's narrow loss, closing out the trip with a quality win over a nationally ranked opponent.
