San Antonio, TX - The 12th-ranked Trinity University Women's Tennis Team continued its strong home stretch with a 6-1 victory over 40th-ranked Skidmore College on Friday morning at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center.
The Tigers wasted little time taking control in doubles play, beginning with a dominant performance at the #3 position.
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) and
Allison Vo (Houston, Texas / Memorial) were first off the court, cruising to a 6-0 victory to give Trinity early momentum.
The sophomore pairing of
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) followed shortly after at #2 doubles with a strong 6-2 win to secure the doubles point and put the Tigers ahead 1-0. The 8th-ranked duo of
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) completed the sweep at #1 doubles, defeating their opponents 6-4.
Trinity carried that momentum into singles play. Tin was first off the court at #3, delivering a flawless performance with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory to extend the lead to 2-0.
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minnesota / Edina) soon followed at #5 with another decisive result, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-0 to push the Tigers within one point of clinching the match.
Schmidt secured the victory for Trinity at #4, turning in a dominant performance with a 6-0, 6-1 win to make the team score 4-0.
Vo, playing her first singles match of the season, added the next point at #6, earning a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory. Andrade then followed at #2 with a composed 6-4, 6-2 win to extend Trinity's advantage.
The final match to finish came at the top of the lineup, where 48th-ranked Kovachev battled 12th-ranked Muratori in a tightly contested match that ultimately came down to a 10-point match tiebreaker, with Muratori claiming the win 7-6 (6), 4-6, (10-8) to account for Skidmore's lone point.
With the victory, Trinity improves to 7-1 on the season while extending its unbeaten home run to five.
