San Antonio, TX - The 12th-ranked Trinity University women's tennis team continued its undefeated home run with a 5-2 victory over the 36th-ranked former SCAC foes Colorado College on Tuesday evening at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center.
Trinity opened doubles play with a dominant performance on court #3, as
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) and
Allison Vo (Houston, Texas / Memorial) cruised to a 6-0 victory over Hickman and Popeo to give the Tigers an early edge. Colorado College responded on court #2, where Komanduri and Lowe defeated
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) 6-3 to even the doubles race. The deciding point came down to the top court, where the 8th-ranked duo of
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif. / Weil Tennis Academy) battled through a tight tiebreak to secure a 7-6 (6) win, clinching the doubles point and giving Trinity a 1-0 lead.
Trinity carried that momentum into singles play, with the first match off the court coming at #2 as the 28th-ranked Andrade delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win over Lowe to make it 2-0.
Levy edged her opponent at #4 with a composed 6-2, 6-3 victory, extending the Tiger lead to 3-0. The clinching point came on court #3, where Tin earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Komanduri to secure the match for Trinity at 4-0.
Freshman
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minn. / Edina) added another point at #6 with a strong 6-0, 7-5 performance against Popeo, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Colorado College picked up its two points late, as Moravek defeated Schmidt 6-4, 6-3 at #5, and Young outlasted Kovachev in a three-set battle at #1, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to close out the 5-2 final score.
After securing the doubles point, the Tigers controlled singles play from the start, winning the first four matches off the court to decisively earn the victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
