San Antonio, TX - The 12th-ranked Trinity University women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday evening, sweeping 22nd-ranked Wellesley College 7-0 at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center.
Trinity got on the board first in doubles play, with
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) and
Allison Vo (Houston, Texas / Memorial) finishing first at the #3 position. The pair secured a solid 6-4 victory to give the Tigers early momentum.
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) followed at #1 doubles, edging their opponents 6-3 to claim the doubles point for Trinity. Wellesley responded at #2 doubles, where
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) fell 6-4, but it was too little too late as the Tigers had already clinched the point.
Carrying that momentum into singles, Tin was first off the court at #3 with a strong 6-4, 6-2 victory to extend the lead to 2-0.
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minnesota / Edina) followed at #6, delivering a composed 6-3, 6-3 win to make it 3-0.
At the top of the lineup, 48th-ranked Kovachev battled through a tight second set to secure a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory at #1 singles, clinching the match for Trinity and pushing the score to 4-0.
Play continued, with the undefeated Levy winning a tightly contested match at #4 7-5, 5-7, (10-6) that was decided by a 10-point tiebreaker. Schmidt added another point at #5 singles, rallying after a first-set loss to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. Andrade closed out the match at #2 singles, overcoming a three-set battle with a 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) victory to cap the sweep.
With the win, Trinity improves to 9-1 on the season, and extends its undefeated home run to seven games.Â
