Danville, KY - The 12th-ranked Trinity University women's tennis team delivered a commanding SAA opener performance on Saturday morning, sweeping the Centre College Colonels 7-0 at the Seabury Family Tennis Center.
Trinity got on the board first in doubles play, with
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) and
Allison Vo (Houston, Texas / Memorial) finishing first at the #3 position. The pair secured a solid 6-1 victory to give the Tigers early momentum.
Momentum then swung at the #2 spot, as
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) fell 6-2. But the Tigers responded decisively at #1, as the 8th-ranked pairing ofÂ
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win
Carrying that momentum into singles, Tin was first off the court at #3 with a strong 6-1, 6-0 victory to extend the lead to 2-0. 28th-ranked Andrade didn't drop a game at #2, as she delivered an outstanding 6-0, 6-0 win to make it 3-0.
At the top of the lineup, the 48th-ranked freshman Kovachev comfortably defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1, to clinch the match for Trinity and push the score to 4-0.
Play continued, with Levy adding another point at #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2 to extend her undefeated season to ten wins. Schmidt followed at #5 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. While
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minnesota / Edina) closed out the match at #6, capping the sweep with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (5) win.
With the win, Trinity improves to 10-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.Â
