Trinity storms the petrels for first SAA road series
The Tigers opened their first year of SAA play with a sweep against Millsaps. Trinity scored at least 10 runs in every single game of the series, marking four consecutive times they've scored double-digit runs in a game. Despite giving up 12 runs in the first game, the Tigers were able to win by plating 23 runs and 12 runs in the first two innings alone. Trinity had three different innings where they scored six runs, and the game ended in the seventh inning by way of the run-rule. Trinity held on for their victory in game two of the Friday doubleheader, as they won 10-8. In that game, Will Hellings threw 4.2 innings in relief, earned the win and pitched an immaculate inning. The next day, Trinity sealed the sweep with their second run-rule victory of the series, 10-0. Khal Coney delivered the two-RBI double that put the Tigers up 10 and ended the game in the seventh. Coney was named the SAA athlete of the week, as he finished with 6 hits, 13 RBI and three home runs in five games. Trinity is 12-7, with a 3-0 record in the SAA.

On the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels: Oglethorpe comes into this series with an overall record of 11-8, and is currently riding a three game win streak. The Stormy Petrels took down Southwestern in two of the three games they played, and currently have a 2-1 record in the SAA. In their most recent game on Tuesday, Oglethorpe beat Covenant College 5-1. So far this season, the Stormy Petrels have been able to rack up extra base hits, and rank 82nd in the country in slugging percentage at .463. However, the team has struggled with giving up runs. They own the 280th ranked ERA (7.81) and the 342nd ranked fielding percentage (.934). Oglethorpe is 2-11 all-time against Trinity, and has lost eight consecutive games. They allowed 10 or more runs in seven of those games, with their last win coming in 1998, the year before Coach Scannell took over the program.Â
On the Concordia University (Texas) Tornados: Concordia and Trinity will meet for the first time since the Tigers beat them in the SCAC tournament. It was a game Trinity won 2-1 to clinch the SCAC title in their final year in the conference, and their second time beating the Tornados in that tournament. So far, Concordia has a 15-8 overall record and is coming off a series victory against Austin College. They have already played a sizable portion of their conference schedule, and currently have an 11-7 record in SCAC play. The Tornados have had no issues scoring runs this season, as they rank top-50 in the nation in both batting average and slugging percentage. They also rank 59th in total scoring. This will be the Tigers' first of two times playing Concordia this season, as the two teams return to meeting twice a year like they did when Trinity was in the SCAC and Concordia was in the ASC.Â
