Sewanee, TN - The 12th-ranked Trinity University Women's Tennis Team delivered a strong road performance, defeating the 27th-ranked Sewanee University Tigers 6-1 on Sunday morning at the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Center.
After the #2 pairing of
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) dropped the opening doubles match 6-1, Trinity quickly responded. At the #1 position, the 8th-ranked duo ofÂ
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) leveled the doubles point race with a composed 6-2 victory.
That left the decision to
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) and
Allison Vo (Houston, Texas / Memorial) at #3, and the duo delivered, securing the doubles point with a 6-3 win to give Trinity a 1-0 lead.
Trinity carried that momentum into singles play. Fresh off her 150th career singles victory the day before, Levy was first off the court at #4, turning in another dominant performance with a 6-1, 6-1 win to extend the lead to 2-0.
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minnesota / Edina) followed at #6 with a strong 6-4, 6-0 victory, pushing the Tigers further in front. With Trinity needing just one more point to clinch, the 28th-ranked Andrade stepped up at #2 and delivered, earning a confident 6-3, 7-5 win to secure the team victory and cap an undefeated opening SAA weekend.
Trinity continued to roll through the remaining matches. Schmidt was next to finish at #5 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Sewanee picked up its lone point at #3, where Tin fell 6-2, 6-4, but the result was already decided.
The final match of the morning came at the top of the lineup, where 48th-ranked Kovachev rebounded after dropping the first set to claim a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory at #1, closing out the 6-1 result.
With the win, Trinity claimed five of six singles matches after securing the doubles point, showcasing depth and composure in a well-rounded road performance to cap a successful weekend.
