No. 13 Tiger Men's Tennis Falls To No. 20 Sewanee

Sewanee, TN – The 13th-ranked Trinity University men's tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to the 20th-ranked Sewanee Tigers on Sunday morning at the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Center, as the hosts secured the doubles point and split singles play.

Doubles action started strongly for Trinity, as the 8th-ranked pairing of Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) cruised to a dominant 6-0 victory at #2. Sewanee responded at #3, where Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) fell 6-2, leaving the doubles point to be decided at #1.

The 23rd-ranked duo of Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) battled all the way to a tiebreak but were edged 7-6 (7-4), giving Sewanee a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Trinity fought back in singles as momentum shifted throughout the lineup. The first result went to Sewanee at #4, where Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connection Academy) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Perry quickly responded at #2 with a composed 6-3, 6-2 win to put Trinity on the board, and Kamath followed at #5 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory to level the match at 2-2.

Kersten then delivered at the top spot, earning a 6-2, 6-4 win at #1 to give Trinity its first lead of the afternoon.

With the Tigers needing just one more point from the final two courts, the match tightened. Ivan Nikolovski (Alpine, N.J. / Dwight Global) came up short at #6, falling 6-3, 6-3, setting up a decisive contest at #3. Dhanani pushed hard in a tightly contested match but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, sealing the 4-3 victory for Sewanee.

Despite the setback, Trinity showed resilience throughout, responding well after dropping the doubles point for just the third time this season and producing several strong singles performances.
