No. 1 Tiger Baseball Heads Into Spring Break

#1 Trinity Baseball enters long spring break homestand

Trinity enters this weekend on their first losing streak of the season after they dropped back-to-back games to Babson and Texas Lutheran. In both games Trinity found themselves by multiple runs and tried to orchestrate a late comeback that fell short. Most recently, the Tigers fell to Texas Lutheran 10-8, which dropped their overall record to 5-3

Preview

After dropping their first road game of the season, the Tigers return home for 11 consecutive games, starting with a three game set against Kean. Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 6th, while games two and three both have start times of 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th and Sunday, March 8th respectively. Trinity will then host a mid-week game against Muhlenberg on Wednesday, March 11th at 7 p.m. before starting a three game series against Tufts. The series against the Jumbos will begin on Saturday, March 14th at 2 p.m. and continue with game two on Sunday, March 15th also at 2 p.m. Game three is scheduled for Monday, March 16th at 7 p.m. Trinity will also be in action the next day as the host Texas Lutheran on Tuesday, March 17th at 6 p.m.

On the Kean University Cougars: This weekend Trinity welcomes in another team who made the College World Series last season in Kean. The Cougars enter this series as the 7th ranked team in the nation and with a record of 5-2-1. Their most recent game was a mid-week win versus Arcadia, but prior to that Kean dropped its series against Cortland. They lost the first game and had the second game end in a tie due to darkness. Currently, Kean has five batters with a batting average over .350 and an OPS above .900. The group is led by Micheal Simone who is batting .412 with an OPS over 1.000. Kean is trying to replace the production of Jason Gilman, the reigning National Division III Pitcher of the Year. So far, this has been a struggle as all three pitchers with 12 or more innings this season for Kean have an ERA of 4.50 or higher and a WHIP of at least 1.50. This is the first ever meeting between Kean and Trinity.

On the Muhlenberg College Mules: The Tigers will pay Muhlenberg on a Wednesday night to continue their homestand over spring break. The Mules are 1-2 at the time of publishing and have had three games postponed due to weather this season. They are coming off a season where they finished 19-20, and will enter the game against Trinity with in the middle of a Texas road trip where they play Concordia and a series against Southwestern.

On the Tufts University Jumbos: To round out spring break, Trinity will play host to Tufts in a baseball version of this year's national championship in men's soccer. At the time of publishing, Tufts has yet to play a game this season due to early cancellations. Last year the Jumbos finished 16-21, and a large part of that was due to their struggles on the road. Tufts claimed a 9-6 home record, but finished 7-15 on the road. The Jumbos have five games scheduled between time of publishing and their series against Trinity, all of which are at home. The Trinity series will be their first road opportunity of the year.

On the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs: As classes get back underway, the long homestand rolls on against TLU. Trinity has already played TLU this season and lost 10-8. The Tigers fell behind 10-6 in that game, and couldn't finish the last push to tie the game despite getting two runs back in the eighth. Brayden Sprencel will look to continue his success against the Tigers this season, as he amassed two hits and two RBI in their last meeting.

Next week

Trinity will conclude their long homestand by starting their first season of SAA play against Millsaps. The Majors are coming off a season where they made the postseason and played in the same regional as Trinity. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, March 20th at, with game one at 4 p.m. and game two scheduled for 7 p.m. Game three will be the next day on Saturday, March 21st and has a first pitch time of noon.
