No. 19 Tiger Men's Tennis March Past Rhodes In SAA Action

Memphis, TN - The 19th-ranked Trinity University Tigers picked up a commanding 6-1 road victory over the 59th-ranked Rhodes College Lynx at the Dunavant Tennis Complex on Saturday morning. Trinity controlled the match from start to finish, claiming the doubles point and rolling through singles to earn a decisive result.

Trinity got off to a fast start in doubles. First to finish at #1 were the 23rd-ranked pairing of Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills), who dispatched their opponents with a sharp 6-1 victory to put the Tigers on the board early. They were then followed up by the 8th-ranked duo of Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) at #2 with a composed 6-3 win. Rhodes avoided the sweep as Ivan Nikolovski (Alpine, N.J. / Dwight Global) and Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connections Academy) were edged 7-5 at #3, but Trinity had already secured the doubles point and carried a 1-0 lead into singles.

Singles play was all Trinity from the jump.

First off the court was Flores at #6, who handled Giatras cleanly with a 6-2, 6-4 decision to push the lead to 2-0. Rhodes then clawed a point back as their lone singles win came at #3, with Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) falling 4-6, 6-7 (3-7) in a hard-fought contest that provided a bright spark for the Lynx in an otherwise difficult afternoon.

Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) at #5 was next across the line, grinding out a tough match against Fellrath with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) result to make it 3-1. The match was decisively clinched at #4, as No. 30 Warren put it away for good with a sharp 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 performance over Thornberry to make it 4-1.

With the dual secured, Trinity kept their foot on the gas. No. 20 Perry at #2 authored one of the more impressive results of the morning, dropping the opening set before storming back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Mainella. While No. 16 Kersten closed out the scoring at #1, working past Bonovich in another tight contest, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), to push the final tally to 6-1.

From the first ball struck in doubles to the final point on court, Trinity was in command throughout. Another complete road performance for the Tigers, who continue to look the part of a team heading in the right direction as the season enters its final stretch.
