Jackson, MS - The 19th-ranked Trinity University Men's Tennis team made quick work of Millsaps College on Sunday morning, rolling to a dominant 7-0 victory at the Coach Montgomery Courts. From the first ball struck in doubles through the final singles point, Trinity was in complete control and never allowed the Majors a foothold in the match.
Trinity seized momentum early in doubles play. First off the courts at #2 were
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake), who delivered an emphatic 6-0 demolition of Causey and Schiaffino to set the tone immediately.
Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) and
Elvin Selimovic (Audenge, Bordeaux, France / The International School of The Hague) followed at #3 with a composed 6-2 victory over Payne and Pierce to secure the doubles point, while the 23rd-ranked top pairing of
Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) closed out the sweep at #1, handling Nguyen and Tuli 6-3 to give Trinity a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
If doubles set the tone, singles put the match away in a hurry.
First to finish was
Ivan Nikolovski (Alpine, N.J. / Dwight Global) at #4, who was sharp and efficient throughout, dispatching his opponent 6-1, 6-1 to extend the lead to 2-0. Selimovic at #5 followed closely behind with an equally dominant showing, winning 6-0, 6-1 to push Trinity further ahead.
Ethan Ruppanner (Amarillo, Texas / Tascosa) at #6 was next across the line, closing out Pierce 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the team victory at 4-0.
With the match already decided, Trinity continued to pour it on. Dhanani at #2 gutted through a competitive three-setter against Tuli, dropping the first set before rallying to win 3-6, 6-1, and then taking the match tiebreak 10-5 in a gritty finish. No. 30
Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connections Academy) at #1 was all business, cruising past Causey 6-1, 6-3 in polished fashion. While
Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) closed out the afternoon at #3 in similar fashion to Dhanani, battling back from a first-set deficit to win 3-6, 6-0, and then clinching the match tiebreak 10-4 over Nguyen.
From top to bottom, it was a thorough and commanding performance by the Tigers. They were relentless in doubles, dominant in singles, and never in any danger throughout the morning.
