Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connections Academy) closed it out at #3, edging Fisher and Riordan 7-6 (7-3) in another tight tiebreak to clinch the doubles sweep and hand Trinity a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Singles play was over before the afternoon had a chance to settle in.
First to finish was Kersten at #1, who was crisp and efficient in dispatching Willenborg 6-2, 6-3 to push the lead to 2-0. Kamath at #5 quickly followed, sweeping Battaglia 6-4, 6-4 in a composed and businesslike performance to extend the advantage. Warren at #3 was next across the line, taking care of Rein 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in a match that required him to close out a tight second set with poise and clinch the match for Trinity at 4-0.
With the sweep on the line, Trinity kept delivering. Dhanani at #4 dropped the second set before reasserting himself in a three-set battle with Gipner, ultimately prevailing 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to push the team score to 5-0. Flores at #6 delivered one of the afternoon's most entertaining matches, trading sets with Lehman before pulling away in a match tiebreak, 7-5, 6-7 (1-7), 10-7, to make it 6-0. Perry closed out the sweep at #2 in equally dramatic fashion, battling back from a second-set loss against Riordan to grind out a 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 victory in a tiebreak thriller that capped a complete team effort.
From first ball to last, the Tigers were tested at times but never threatened. The doubles sweep set the tone, singles delivered the decisive blows, and Trinity's depth proved too much for the Eagles to handle throughout.
