No. 17 Tiger Men's Tennis Rolls Past No. 30 Southwestern In Final SAA Matchup

San Antonio, TX - The 17th-ranked Trinity University Tigers rolled to a dominant 6-1 home victory over 30th-ranked local rivals Southwestern University at the Butch Newman Tennis Centre on Sunday morning. Trinity controlled proceedings from the opening ball, sweeping the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches to close out an emphatic result in their final SAA regular season matchup.

Trinity wasted no time in doubles. First to finish at #1 were Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills), who dispatched Langford and Snyman with a clean 6-4 victory to get the Tigers on the board. They were followed by Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) at #2, who edged a competitive match 7-6, (7-3) to clinch the doubles point and keep the momentum rolling. Rounding out the sweep at #3, were Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connections Academy), who closed it out 7-6 (7-4) to carry a 1-0 lead into singles.

Singles play belonged to Trinity from first ball to last.

First off the court was No. 16 Kersten at #1, who made quick work of Clemente with a sharp 6-1, 6-2 victory to push the lead to 2-0. No. 20 Perry at #2 was next across the line, dispatching Arens with a crisp 6-1, 6-1 performance to make it 3-0 and put Southwestern firmly on the back foot. Flores then closed the door on any Southwestern hope at #6, handling former Trinity player Vo cleanly with a tidy 6-0, 6-1 result to clinch the match at 4-0.

Southwestern earned their lone point of the afternoon at #4, as Patel turned aside Dhanani 6-2, 6-1 to give the Pirates something to cheer about in an otherwise difficult morning.

With the match already settled, Warren at #3 grinded through a tough three-setter against Ellis, dropping the second set 1-6 before gutting out a 12-10 tiebreak set to seal a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (12-10) win and push the score to 5-1.

Kamath then closed out the scoring at #5 in another three-set battle, rallying past Alvarez 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) to set the final scoreline at 6-1.

From the first doubles court to the last singles ball, Trinity was in command throughout. A complete home performance for the Tigers, who continue to look like a team building real momentum as they into SAA tournament play.
