SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - Trinity Softball completes sweep of Sewanee.
The Tigers (23-8-1, 8-3 SAA) picked up another run-rule win 9-0 in game three against Sewanee.
The Rundown
Trinity came out swinging and never let Sewanee settle in as the Tigers rolled to a five-inning shutout behind an explosive start at the plate and a dominant performance from Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) in the circle.
The Tigers struck immediately in the first inning with five runs on five hits. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) started the rally with an infield single, Angela Baltzell (Antioch, California / Freedom) followed with a bunt single, and Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) added another base hit to load the bases with no outs. Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) then ripped a two-run double to left center to score Boudreaux and Baltzell and put Trinity in front early. After the Tigers kept the inning alive, Arce delivered the biggest swing of the frame, blasting an inside-the-park three-run home run to right field, burning the defender, that brought home herself, Lee, and Tagawa for a 5-0 lead.
While Trinity's offense applied early pressure, Arce gave Sewanee nothing to work with. She controlled the game from the start, piling up strikeouts and keeping the visitors from ever building momentum. Arce struck out nine over five innings and allowed just one hit, consistently getting ahead and shutting down Sewanee's lineup before it could threaten.
Trinity added another four runs in the third inning to break the game open. Tagawa reached to begin the frame and Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy for Arts Careers and Technology) followed with a single. Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) moved things along and later swiped second, setting up Mariana Garcia (Goodyear, Arizona / Canyon View) for a two-run double to left that scored Tagawa and Del Toro. Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) followed with a single and stole second, and Boudreaux capped the inning with a two-run triple to right field to bring home Garcia and Whitacre and stretch the lead to 9-0.
Sewanee never found an answer against Arce, whose shutout effort kept the Tigers firmly in control from first pitch to final out. Trinity closed out the run-rule victory in five innings, 9-0.
