Trinity wraps up the regular season with series at Centre

The Tigers will end the regular season with a three game series against Centre College. They enter the final series of the year tied for first place in the SAA, and are coming off a series loss against Rhodes. Trinity lost game one 9-3, but responded by taking game two 14-4 and a run-rule win. Despite having the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings, the Tigers were unable to win the rubber match and lost 5-4.Â

Trinity heads to Kentucky on derby weekend to face Centre College. Going into the series, the Tigers are still alive for the SAA regular season title and top seed in the SAA Tournament, needing to win one more game than Rhodes this weekend to win it. Game one against Centre will be on Friday, May 1st at 5 p.m. Games two and three will be the next day on May 2nd, with first pitch of game two at 11 a.m. and game three at 2 p.m.

On the Centre College Colonels: Centre enters the regular season finale with a 9-9 SAA record and have already clinched a spot in the SAA Tournament. Despite their nine conference losses this season, the Colonels have a strong 25-12 overall record. The team has been partially strong at home, as they own a 23-4 record on their home field. Centre has now won four straight games after their mid-week victory over Transylvania, and is coming off a weekend sweep over Oglethorpe in three games. Centre has been particularly strong on the mound this year. They have a team ERA of 3.89, which ranks 17th in the nation and a strikeout to walk ratio of 2.34, which is 19th in the country. This will be the first time Trinity and Centre have played since 2009, but the schools still have strong ties to each other. Centre head coach Drew Briese's son,

Tim Scannell's son James Scannell is a first-year on Centre's men's basketball team.

Regardless of what happens in this weekend's series, the Tigers will head to Georgia for the third time this year to play in the SAA Tournament. The tournament begins on May 7th, however, the Tigers will likely be one of the top two seeds that receive a bye and will start playing on May 8th. If Trinity wins the tournament, they will receive an automatic spot in the NCAA postseason and will play in a regional starting on May 15th.
