Trinity heads to Georgetown to siege the Pirates
Â
The Tigers entered last weekend on a three game losing streak, but managed to snap out of it in the matchup against Berry. Trinity swept the Vikings in their three game series. They won game one 13-4 and a game where the outcome was never in doubt. They finished the sweep by taking games two and three the next day. Trinity managed to pull this off despite trailing by multiple runs in both games. The bats came to play in the series, as they scored at least eight runs in all three games. Despite the offensive explosion they saw in Georgia, Trinity did not have the same luck in Austin against Concordia. Trinity got shutout for the first time this season and lost 1-0 in extra innings.Â

PreviewÂ
Â
Trinity will continue their long string of road games this weekend against their old SCAC opponents, the Southwestern Pirates. Game one and two will be played on Friday, April 10 at noon and 3 p.m. A single is scheduled for the following day, with the first pitch of game two scheduled for noon. Trinity will then travel to Houston to face another SCAC team in St. Thomas on Tuesday, April 14 at 6 p.m.
Â
On the Southwestern University Pirates: Southwestern enters their first series against Trinity as members of the SAA with a record of 6-21. They have lost eight of their last nine games, and are coming off a 12-1 loss to Texas Lutheran. Prior to that, the Pirates dropped two of three games in a weekend set against Rhodes. The Pirates' pitching in particular has struggled this season, as the team has a 9.58 team ERA, which ranks 346th in the country. Additionally, Southwestern has a 1.09 strikeout to walk ratio, which is good for 313th in the nation. They will look to right the ship this weekend against Trinity, who swept them the last time they faced at the end of last season. The squads also faced in the SCAC Tournament two seasons ago and lost 8-4. Southwestern's ties to Trinity go beyond their prior matchups, as Southwestern head coach JC Bunch was a Trinity assistant coach on the 2016 championship team.Â
Â
On the St. Thomas University Celts: The Celts have a 12-19 overall record at the time of writing, with an 11-13 record in SCAC play. They've also won four of their last five, and have scored eight or more runs in three of those games. Prior to that stretch, the Celts had lost seven games in a row, with six of those games being in conference. Trinity and St. Thomas met last season in the first game of the SCAC Tournament. The game went to extra innings, and Trinity was able to win after a lightning delay. They went on to win their next two games against Concordia and take the SCAC championship in their final year in the conference.Â
