SAN- ANTONIO – The Trinity University women's soccer team cruised past the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon, scoring seven unanswered goals in a 7-0 shutout at Paul McGinlay Field.
The Rundown
The Tigers (4-0) came out firing, scoring three goals within the first 11 minutes of the match. Trinity struck first in the eighth minute and tacked on two more before the 12-minute mark to seize a dominant 3-0 lead. The Tigers added three more goals in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 6-0 advantage into the break, then capped the scoring with a seventh goal midway through the second half. Trinity outshot the Crusaders (0-4) 35-2 on the day, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal, and held a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands) opened the scoring in the eighth minute off an assist from
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne), who then found the net twice herself in a span of just 22 seconds to make it 3-0, with Brackin returning the favor and assisting Doran's second goal.
Lia Bonet (Houston, Texas / Kinkaid) made it 4-0 in the 41st minute for her first goal at Trinity, assisted by
Anna Newland (Kirkwood, Mo. / Kirkwood) and
Lilly Fant (Crownsville, Md. / Old Mill).
Saige Clary (Houston, Texas / Episcopal) followed a minute later with her first collegiate goal, off of a corner delivered by
Ava Degrand (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands / Cayman International School), before
Rowan Hankins (Salt Lake City, Utah / Judge Memorial Catholic) capped the half with a buzzer-beater right at the 45-minute mark for her own first collegiate goal, again assisted by Newland and Fant.
Emily Camp (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) rounded the scoring in the 58th minute off a feed from
Camille Young (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands Christian) to provide a 7-0 victory for the Tigers.
Goalkeepers
Colette Whitsitt (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) and
Trinity Jefferson (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) combined for the shutout, facing just two total shots. It marks Trinity's third shutout in its first four games of the season. The seven-goal outburst made for an offensively dominant afternoon for the Tigers, and with two first collegiate goals and a first goal in a Trinity uniform among the tallies, it was a monumental moment for several players in the program.
