ABILENE, Texas – The Trinity University women's soccer team put together a dominant performance from start to finish, defeating familiar and competitive opponent Hardin-Simmons 5-1 on Thursday night at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The Rundown
The Tigers kept the pressure on the Cowgirls for the full 90 minutes, outshooting Hardin-Simmons 26-8 on the day, including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal, and holding an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks. Trinity took a 2-0 lead into halftime before pulling away with three second-half goals to seal the rivalry win.
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands) opened the scoring in the eighth minute off an assist from
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne). Trinity doubled its lead in the 28th minute when Doran converted a penalty kick, drawn by Brackin, to make it 2-0 at the break. After half, the Tigers picked up right where they left off, with Brackin striking again just 22 seconds into the second half off another assist from Doran to make it 3-0.
Kylie Harris (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) followed in the 52nd minute, finishing a brilliant header off a feed from
Elie Kriek (New Orleans, La. / The Willow School) to extend the lead to 4-0.
Hardin-Simmons got on the board in the 60th minute, converting off a corner kick cutting the deficit to 4-1. Trinity had the final say, though, as
Anna Newland (Kirkwood, Mo. / Kirkwood) capped the scoring in the 89th minute with an assist from
Rowan Hankins (Salt Lake City, Utah / Judge Memorial Catholic) to close out the 5-1 win.
