Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger women's basketball team
pulled away in the final minutes to take a 77-67 win over the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night.
Trinity (3-0), ranked 15th in the latest WBCA Division III poll,
led 35-32 at the half despite falling behind by as many as seven
points early in the game. Neither team could build a
significant lead in the opening period, and that trend continued
into the second half.
After UMHB broke a 56-56 tie with just over five minutes to
play, the Tigers went on a 10-0 run to take control of the game and
lead 66-58 with 2:24 remaining. Trinity hit 11-12 from the
foul line in the final 1:09 to seal the win.
Danielle Hubenak, recently named the SCAC Player of
the Week for her performance at the Trinity Tip-Off Tournament this
past weekend, led Trinity with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She
also added six assists and three steals, hitting 6-10 from the
field and 4-5 three-pointers.
Abby Dietert hit 11-13 from the foul line on
her way to a game-high 19 points, adding six boards and six
assists. Ali Marzella hit 4-5 shots and 2-3 threes to chip in
with 14 points, while Alexandra Blake rounded out the double-figure scorers
for Trinity with 11 points.
Mallory McAdams led five UMHB players in double figures with 16
points, adding five rebounds and three assists.
Trinity, which shot over 50% in the first half and just under
46% overall, held UMHB to 38.2% shooting for the game. The
Tigers also overcame 18 turnovers to earn the win.
Up next for Trinity will be a November 30 matchup against
Otterbein at Sams Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m., and the Tigers will
remain home for the SCAC opener on December 3 against Southwestern.
