Georgetown, Texas – The Trinity Tigers women's
tennis team, ranked No. 20 in the NCAA Division III, shut out SCAC
opponent Austin College 9-0 Friday night at Southwestern
University.
Trinity, ranked No. 4 in the West Region, improved to 4-10 after
the win over the 14th-regionally ranked Kangaroos. The Tigers now
stand at 4-3 in Division III competition.
Katy Poettcker and Kassie Seger won No. 1 doubles, beating Kelly
Lewis and Minnie Satyavada 8-4. Katie Budinsky and Erin Jamison
were 8-4 winners over Lizzie Flint and Jessie Berger at No. 2
doubles. Thavindra Ekanayake and Katie Griffith defeated Kate
Bailey and Paula Vercher 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Poettcker took No. 1 singles, with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lewis,
and Griffith won No. 2 singles, beating Flint 6-2, 6-1. Ekanayake
was a 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 winner over Satyavada at No. 3 singles, with a
tiebreak played instead of a third set. Budinsky blanked Bailey
6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, and Megan Jackson beat Berger 6-2, 6-1
at No. 5. Seger rounded out the match by winning No. 6 singles 6-0,
6-0 over Vercher.
Tigers take on host Southwestern at 9 a.m. Saturday, and Hendrix
at 2 p.m.
