ROME, GA. – The Tiger women's tennis team advanced to the Quarterfinals of the singles tournament at the ITA Cup but fell short in the Round of 16 in doubles action on Thursday.
Senior
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Carroll Senior High) won a tight opening set 7-6 (7-4) in her first-round matchup against Kornilova of Wesleyan University (CT). She then pulled away with a 6-2 win in the second to advance to the Quarterfinals of the main draw.
The Trinity doubles team of Andrade and sophomore
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) drew the tournament's top-seeded pairing of Bui and Archer from Washington University in St. Louis (MO). After falling 6-0 in the opening set, the Tigers made the second set more competitive but ultimately fell 6-3 to exit the doubles draw. The duo will now enter the consolation bracket where they will face off against Elvestrom and Wahlstrand of Gustavus Adolphus College tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
Both Tigers reached this week's ITA Cup by winning titles at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, with Andrade claiming the singles crown and the pair capturing the doubles title. The wins clinched both All-American status and a spot in the national tournament.
