SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University Women's Tennis wrapped up a dominant weekend at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Sunday, sweeping the singles and doubles titles at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center.
Senior
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Carroll Senior High) captured the singles championship before teaming up with sophomore
Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School) to win the doubles title later in the day.
Andrade entered the singles championship as the No. 2 seed and faced top-seeded Kovachev in an all-Trinity final. Andrade grabbed control of the match with a 6-4 victory in the opening set before pulling away in the second. She closed out the championship with a 6-2 win to defeat Kovachev and claim the ITA Southwest Regional singles title.
The championship completed an impressive run through the draw for Andrade. She defeated
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) 6-1, 6-2 in Saturday's quarterfinals before earning another straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-2, against fourth-seeded
Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minnesota / Edina) in the semifinals. Kovachev earned her spot in Sunday's championship after a three-set semifinal victory over
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift), winning 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-0.
Andrade and Kovachev then joined forces in the doubles championship against the second-seeded Tiger duo of Schmidt and Tin. The top-seeded pairing opened the match in dominant fashion, cruising to a 6-0 victory in the first set.
Schmidt and Tin responded in the second, bouncing back to take the set 6-3 and force a 10-point match tiebreak for the regional championship. Andrade and Kovachev regained control in the deciding tiebreak, racing ahead and finishing off a 10-4 victory to capture the doubles title.
The two Tiger teams reached Sunday's championship after impressive semifinal performances. Andrade and Kovachev defeated Howard Payne's Hannah Lightner and Julia Lightner 8-2, while Schmidt and Tin earned an 8-1 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor's Jolin Ha and Bailee Lane.
Sunday's victories completed a second consecutive sweep of the ITA Southwest Regional singles and doubles championships for Trinity. Andrade also became a repeat regional doubles champion after winning last year's title with
Trinity Levy, while Kovachev earned her first regional doubles championship after finishing runner-up a season ago.

Andrade will advance to the ITA Cup as the Southwest Region singles champion, while Andrade and Kovachev will represent the Tigers in the doubles draw. The ITA Cup is scheduled for October 15-18 in Rome, Georgia.
