Tyler, Texas – The Trinity Tigers
women's tennis team wrapped up its trip to UT-Tyler with an
8-1 SCAC victory over the Rhodes Lynx Saturday.
Trinity (7-11, 4-0 SCAC), ranked No. 19 nationally, was
edged 5-4 by No. 29 Texas-Tyler on Friday. The Tigers, ranked
fourth in the West Region, now stand at 7-4 in NCAA Division III
matches.
The Tigers started Saturday's match by winning two of
three doubles. Erin Jamison and Katie Budinsky won No. 2 doubles,
beating Anna Moak and Carolina Sanchez 9-8. Thavindra Ekanayake and
Katie Griffith were victorious at No. 3 doubles, defeating Courtney
Martin and Lesiy Ruddock 8-1. Rhodes' only win of the match
was at No. 1 doubles, with Anna Beth Sanford and Alice Havner
beating Trinity's Katy Poettcker and Kassie Seger 8-5.
Griffith won No. 1 singles 7-6, 6-2 over Sanford, and Ekanayake
took No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1, beating Havner. No. 3 singles went to
Budinsky, a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Sanchez, and Megan Jackson took
No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-2, defeating Alex Phipps. Seger beat Aya Kato
6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and Jamison prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6
over Moak.
Trinity returns home Friday, April 9, to host McMurry (No.
15 in the region) at 3 p.m. at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
