Irvine, Calif. - The 25th-ranked Trinity
Tiger women's tennis team opened its California trip with a 6-3
loss to the No. 30 Vassar Brewers on Friday afternoon.
Trinity (2-3) started the match by winning two of three doubles.
Thavindra Ekanayake and Kylie Hornbeck defeated Alyssa Roush and
Jennifer Beckerman 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. Megan Jackson and Kathleen
Lundquist beat Caroline Dunn-Rankin and Natalie Santiago 8-6 in the
No. 3 match. Vassar's Joy Backer and Nicole Block were 8-4 winners
over Katie Griffith aand Kassie Seger at No. 1 doubles.
Vassar went on to capture five of the six singles matches.
The Tigers' victory came at No. 2 singles, as Griffith beat Block
6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Beckerman won the No. 1 singles match, beating Ekanayake 6-1,
6-2. Backer beat Jackson 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, and Jennifer
Ruther outlasted Hornbeck 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-3 in the No. 4 match.
Santiago beat Seger 7-5, 6-1 in No. 5 singles, and Lindsay Kantor
was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Lundquist at No. 6.
Trinity travels to Claremont, Calif., Saturday for a match with
sixth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer at 1 p.m. Pacific (3 p.m. Central).
