Banana Slugs won two of three doubles matches and swept the singles
in an 8-1 victory over the 30th-ranked Trinity Tigers women
Thursday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
Trinity (2-7) won No. 3 doubles as Megan Jackson and Katie Griffith
defeated Nicole Hannouche and Sarah Malone 8-4.
Jackson played one of the tightest matches of the day, at No. 3
singles. The Slugs Alexandra Scotten won the match 5-7, 6-4, 10-6
(tiebreak instead of third set). Trinity's Kylie Hornbeck and
UCSC's Laura Wade battled it out at No. 4 singles, with Wade
prevailing 4-6, 6-1, 13-11 (tiebreak instead of third set).
Ariana Mokhtari beat Trinity's Thavindra Ekanayake 6-1, 6-4 at No.
1 singles; and Taylor Mannix was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Griffith in
the No. 2 match.
Rachel Shinto won No. 5 singles, beating Erin Jamison 6-3, 6-4; and
Hannouche took No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-2 over Kassie Seger.
Mokhtar and Mannix beat Ekanayake and Seger 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Wade and Scotten shut out Hornbeck and Kathleen Lundquist 8-0 at
No. 2 doubles.
Trinity will host Texas-Dallas at noon Sunday at Delavan.
