San Antonio - The 25th-ranked Trinity Tigers
women beat the Mary-Hardin-Baylor Crusaders 7-2 Friday in a dual
match at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
Trinity (2-2) took only one of the three doubles matches, but
swept all six singles.
The Tigers Thavindra Ekanayake and Kylie Hornbeck won No. 2
doubles, beating Rebecca Everett and AshLee Bilbo 8-3.
Mary Hardin-Baylor won No. 1 doubles as sisters Mallory and
Megan Aarhus beat Katie Griffith and Kassie Seger 8-1. The Cru also
captured No. 3 doubles, with Megan Richardson and Penelope Kittle
edging Kathleen Lundquist and Megan Jackson 9-7.
From that point, the match belonged to the Tigers.
Ekanayake won No. 1 singles with a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory
over Megan Aarhus. Griffith was the winner in the No. 2 slot,
beating Mallory Aarhus 6-4, 6-4. Jackson outlasted Everett 5-7,
6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Hornbeck beat Richardson 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4 singles, and Seger
defeated Bilbo 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 5 match. Lundquist capped the
match by winning No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-2 over Kittle.
The Tigers will next play four matches in California, starting
with 30th-ranked Vassar (in Irvine) on Friday, March 11. Trinity
returns home Thursday, March 24, to host No. 26 California-Santa
Cruz.
