San Antonio - The 30th-ranked Trinity Tigers
women concluded their regular-season home schedule with a 5-4
victory Sunday over the No. 26 Texas-Tyler Patriots at Delavan
Tennis Stadium.
Trinity (5-7) beat a ranked team for the second straight time, as
the Tigers registered a 5-4 win over No. 17 Washington-St. Louis
Friday at home.
The Tigers Kylie Hornbeck clinched Sunday''s match with a 2-6, 6-3,
6-2 victory over Jessica Blundell at No. 4 singles. The last match
on the court was No. 6 singles, as UT-Tyler's Morgan Wilkins beat
Lavinia Bendandi 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
UT-Tyler started the dual match by winning two of three doubles.
Sydni Hermsdorf and Emily McRae took No. 1 doubles, beating
Hornbeck and Thavindra Ekanayake 8-5. Ashley Albro and Lauren
Giovannini beat the Tigers Kassie Seger and Kathleen Lundquist 8-6
at No. 3 doubles.
Trinity picked up a point, at No. 2 doubles, with Megan Jackson and
Katie Griffith recording an 8-6 win over Blundell and Michelle
Hagler.
The top two singles matches were captured by the Tigers, as
Ekanayake beat Hagler 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 slot; and Griffith
defeated Hermsdorf 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.
Trinity's Erin Jamison won No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory
over Trich. UT-Tyler's Giovannini took No. 3 singles, beating
Jackson 6-3, 6-4.
The Tigers travel to Abilene, Texas, Saturday, for matches with
Hardin-Simmons and McMurry.
