Box Score 2 Tyler, Texas - Four Trinity tennis players will
comprise Sunday's "A" Singles semifinals at the USTA/ITA Division
III Women's Southwest Championships at Summers Tennis Center.
Junior Thavindra Ekanayake takes on first-year player Mackenzie
Knoop, and senior Katie Griffith meets sophomore Kylie Hornbeck.
The semifinals will start at 8 a.m., and the championship match
will be played an hour after their conclusion.
In Saturday's quarterfinals, Ekanayake took out Amy Friesenhahn, of
host Texas-Tyler, 6-2, 6-4, and Knoop dispatched Mary
Hardin-Baylor's Mallory Aarhus 6-1, 6-1. Griffith defeated Lauren
Jay of Hardin-Simmons 7-5, 6-0, and Hornbeck beat Texas-Tyler's
Sydni Hermsdorf 6-4, 6-2.
There will also be an all Trinity doubles championship match, at a
time to be determined. Knoop and first-year player Stephanie
Williamson will play Griffith and senior Kassie Seger for the
regional title.
Knoop and Williamson beat Mallory and Megan Aarhus of Mary
Hardin-Baylor 8-6 in the semis, and Griffith and Seger edged
Frisenhahn and Hermsdorf of Texas-Tyler 9-8.
The singles and doubles champions qualify for the National Small
College Championships Oct. 13-16 at Mobile, Ala.
