San Antonio - Trinity's women's soccer team
finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend
sweep with a 6-0 win over Centenary College on Sunday
afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 10-1-2 on the season, including a
conference-leading 6-0-0 mark. Trinity had six different
players score goals in the game, and two Tiger goalkeepers split
the game for combined shutout.
Emily Jorgens earned the game-winning goal, putting Trinity up
1-0 just 3:02 into the contest. Senior Samantha Atkins
quickly made it 2-0 with her goal that came less than two minutes
later. Atkins was playing in just her second game of the
season, after missing the start of the year due to
injury.
After assisting on the Atkins goal, Kelsey Falcone then scored
one of her own, and the Tigers were up 3-0 with less than 10
minutes elapsed in the game. Just before halftime, Michelle
Lanier got in on the act with her own goal, on an assist from Emily
Donnan.
The second half saw Trinity's top scorers net the final goals of
the game. Shelby Guenthardt tied for the team lead with her
10th goal of the year just over five minutes after halftime, but
Stephanie Segovia broke the tie with her 11th goal of the season in
the 75th minute of play.
Goalkeepers Katie Garrett and Devan Osegueda combined for the
shutout, though the duo faced just one shot between the two of
them. Trinity out-shot Centenary 40-1 in the game.
Trinity will continue SCAC play next weekend, facing off against
the University of Dallas at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers return home on Wednesday, October 26, taking on
Southwestern University at 6:00 p.m.
