team committed four turnovers in a 31-14 road loss at Centre
College on Saturday afternoon, snapping a two-game winning
streak.
The Tigers fall to 4-3 on the season with the loss, and the team
is now 2-2 on the road. Trinity falls to 15-9 all-time
against Centre, and the Tigers have lost three times in the last
five meetings.
Trinity opened the scoring with a touchdown late in the first
quarter, but Centre answered quickly with a score of its own to tie
the game. The Colonels then added another touchdown in the
second quarter to take the 14-7 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Centre scored its third straight touchdown
to go up 21-7, and the Tigers finally answered late in the quarter
to cut the lead to just seven points. The Colonels again
answered with a touchdown early in the fourth, then added a late
field goal to seal the win with just under three minutes
remaining.
Trinity piled up 343 yards of offense, but allowed Centre to
gain 377 overall. The Tigers shot themselves in the foot with
four interceptions on offense, including three in Centre territory.
Mason Blaschke led the team in both rushing and passing,
totaling 189 yards. He had 68 rushing yards and a touchdown
on 11 carries, as well as completing 9-14 for 121 yards through the
air. Blaschke also threw three interceptions in the game,
while Nykolas McKissic completed 9-13 and was picked off once.
Travis Williams had 53 yards rushing and a touchdown on 15
carries, while Cody Sandman finished with a team-best five
receptions for 69 yards. Matthe Kennemer also picked up 35
yards receiving on four catches, and Mason Lytal had three
receptions for 47 total yards.
Jai Boatman led Trinity's defense in tackles for the second
straight week, picking up 12 total stops - eight of which were
solo. Von'Darrick Jones had nine tackles, while Phillip
Hiner-Leamon and Caleb Green finished with seven tackles each.
Christopher Hobbs had three solo tackles and had Trinity's
lone turnover on defense - an interception in the second
quarter.
Trinity returns home this weekend to host Millsaps College at
1:30 p.m.
