Wheaton, Illinois - The second-ranked
Tiger women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 tie in double
overtime at #16 Wheaton (IL) College on Friday evening.
Trinity moves to 8-0-2 on the season, and both ties have come
against nationally-ranked opponents. The draw does snap a
seven-game winning streak for the Tigers, dating back to the second
game of the season.
The clear star of the day for Trinity was goalkeeper Katie
Garrett, who faced a total of 38 shots through 110 minutes of
action. Garrett recorded 21 saves in the game, which is the
second-highest total in Tiger women's soccer history.
After a scoreless first half, Trinity broke through with a goal
in the 59th minute from Stephanie Segovia. She now leads the
team with eight goals scored in 2012, and she was assisted by Emily
Jorgens - who is now tied for the team lead with five assists.
Wheaton finally cracked the wall put up by Garrett in the 77th
minute, scoring after a deflection to send the game into overtime.
The Thunder move to 10-2-1 this season with the tie.
Trinity will continue its weekend road trip in Illinois on
Sunday, taking on Loras College in a neutral-site game at 1:00 p.m.
The Tigers return home next weekend, resuming Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference play with games against Austin
College and Centenary College.
