Wheaton, Illinois - The Tiger women's soccer
team suffered its first loss of the 2012 season in a 3-2
double-overtime defeat against Loras College on Sunday
afternoon.
Trinity fell to 8-1-2 on the season, losing its first regular
season contest in the last 45 games - a streak that dates back to
the second game of the 2010 season. The Tigers still hold a
significant home winning streak, though, having not lost in the
last 42 games played at Trinity (including the postseason).
In Sunday's game, the Tigers fell behind early as Loras pushed
in a goal after just 70 seconds of play. Loras then went up
2-0 midway through the first period, a lead that held to halftime.
In the second half, Trinity was finally able to find the back of
the net in the 57th minute, as Stephanie Segovia scored her ninth
goal of the 2012 campaign. In the 70th minute, Shelby
Guenthardt scored the equalizer, which eventually sent the game
into overtime. Kelsey Falcone and Emily Jorgens assisted on
the goals.
In the opening overtime period, the Tigers held a 4-0 advantage
in shots - including three shots on goal. Loras goalkeepers
had to make 10 total saves in the game - four of which came in
extra time.
With less than three minutes remaining in double-overtime, Loras
was awarded a penalty kick, which was converted by Katie Truesdale
for the game-winner. It was the second goal of the day for
Truesdale.
Trinity GK Katie Garrett recorded six saves in the game, just
one game removed from a 21-save performance in a 1-1 tie against
Wheaton (IL) on Friday. Trinity held a 21-10 lead in shots
taken for the game, as well as a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Tigers resume Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play
this weekend, hosting Austin College and Centenary College on
Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.
