San Antonio - The Tiger women's soccer team had eight players earn a spot on the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team, after Trinity won the last weekend's conference tournament.
After receiving a first-round bye, Trinity defeated Austin College 7-0 in the SCAC Semifinals, then edged the University of Dallas 1-0 this past Sunday afternoon to win the title. It was the fourth straight SCAC Championship for the Tigers, as well as the second straight year to win the conference tournament.
Shelby Guenthardt was the SCAC Tournament Offensive MVP, scoring three goals and an assist in the two wins - including the game-winning goal in Sunday's final. Guenthardt leads Trinity with 18 goals this season.
Joining Guenthardt on the All-Tournament team were Samantha Atkins, Kelsey Falcone, Shelby Hopkins, Emily Jorgens, Kirby Peddicord, Stephanie Segovia, and Jennifer White. Atkins had two goals and an assist against Austin, while Segovia and Falcone also picked up goals in the game. Jorgens had a pair of assists in the win, which increases her team-leading total to 17 assists this year.
Trinity earned the SCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs with the championship, and will host the First/Second Round of the NCAA Playoffs on Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers open with a game against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The winner will face either Hardin-Simmons University or Chapman University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
