San Antonio - Trinity's women's tennis team
finished off its first weekend of the regular season with a 9-0
shutout win over Texas Lutheran University on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (1-1) suffered a narrow 5-4 loss to Laredo Community
College yesterday, but bounced back with a win in the first match
against a Division III opponent.
Three Tiger players earned wins in both singles and doubles on
the day, which was also supposed to include an evening match
against Division II University of Incarnate Word. That match
was postponed until Friday afternoon (3:00 p.m.), though, due to
inclement weather.
Kylie Hornbeck took a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, as well as
winning No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 shutout. She teamed up with
Katie Griffith for the doubles victory.
Thavindra Ekanayake won at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1), and teamed
up with Mackenzie Knoop for a win at No. 1 doubles (8-1).
Stephanie Williamson won at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles,
winning 6-2, 6-0 in singles, and 8-1 in doubles, along with partner
Kassie Seger.
Lavinia Bendandi (No. 3) and Melissa Ponder (No. 6) both won
6-0, 6-0 on the day, while Laura Roa earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5
singles.
Trinity will celebrate Valentine's Day (Tuesday) with an
afternoon match against Division II St. Mary's (TX) University, at
3:00 p.m.
