San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis team won
a 6-3 decision over Division II St. Mary's University on Tuesday
afternoon.
Trinity is now 1-1 against non-Division III teams this season,
and holds an overall record of 2-1 so far in 2012.
The Tigers took two of the three doubles matchups, then won four
of six in singles play to secure the overall match win.
Mackenzie Knoop led the team with wins at No. 1 singles and No.
1 doubles, teaming with Thavindra Ekanayake. The two Tigers
won 8-0 in doubles, and Knoop took her singles match 6-1,
6-4.
Ekanayake also won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles spot, and with
Knoop, was one of just three Trinity players to win in both singles
and doubles. Kylie Hornbeck was the third, winning 6-3, 6-2
at No. 3 singles, and teaming with Katie Griffith for an 8-5 win in
doubles (No. 2 position).
Lavinia Bendandi won 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 in her No. 5 singles match,
while Griffith was edged 7-6, 2-6, 7-10 at No. 2 singles.
Stephanie Williamson and Kassie Seger lost 7-9 at No. 3 doubles,
and Williamson lost 1-6, 4-6 at No. 6 singles.
Trinity will be back in action on Friday, facing off against
another D-II opponent from San Antonio, the University of Incarnate
Word. The match was originally scheduled for this past
Sunday, but inclement weather forced it to be postponed to Friday
at 3:00 p.m.
