Claremont, California - Trinity's women's
tennis team continued its West Coast road trip with a 7-2 victory
over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday afternoon, improving to 7-1
overall this season.
The Tigers also won for the third time on the Spring Break trip,
and earned their seventh consecutive win overall.
Three different Trinity players scored points in both singles
and doubles to help lead Trinity to the win. Stephanie
Williamson teamed with Kassie Seger for a hard-fought 9-7 win in
No. 3 doubles, helping the Tigers take two of the three doubles
points to start the match.
Williamson also swept her No. 6 singles match in straight sets,
winning 6-4, 6-2 over Pomona's Kristin Brinkmanis.
Also scoring two points each were Mackenzie Knoop and Thavindra
Ekanayake. The duo combined for an 8-5 win in No. 1 doubles
to start the day. Ekanayake won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles,
while Knoop had to rally to earn a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory.
Knoop is now 7-1 in both singles and doubles, while Ekanayake
improves to 8-0 in singles this season. Kyle Hornbeck earned
a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win at No. 4 singles, joining Knoop with a 7-1
individual record this season. Lavinia Bendandi improved to
6-2 with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
Trinity will continue its string of five matches in five days
tomorrow afternoon against Washington (MO) University. The
match, which will also be played in Claremont, is set to begin at
4:00 p.m. (Central).
