Box Score 2 Tyler, Texas - Trinity's women's tennis team
split two matches on Saturday afternoon, edging Whitman College
5-4, but losing 9-0 against Tyler Junior College.
The Tigers opened the day with the narrow victory, despite
beginning the match by losing two of three doubles contests.
Whitman won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles over Mackenzie Knoop and
Thavindra Ekanayake, and won 8-3 over Katie Griffith and Kylie
Hornbeck at No. 2. Kassie Seger and Stephanie Williamson took
an important 8-5 win at the third position.
Trinity then rallied by winning four of the six singles contests
to clinch the overall team win. The Tigers won 3-6 in
singles, with Williamson taking a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win (No. 6) in the
only three-set match of the day. Ekanayake and Hornbeck won
in straight sets, as did Lavinia Bendandi at No. 5
singles.
Trinity finishes off its road weekend with a match against the
University of Texas-Tyler tomorrow afternoon.
