Claremont, California - The Tiger women's
tennis team opened up its Spring Break trip with a 6-3 win over
Vassar College on Thursday afternoon.
Trinity (5-1) won its fifth consecutive match, and is in the
midst of five matches in five days on the West Coast.
Opening the match, the Tigers swept all three doubles points,
starting with Mackenzie Knoop and Thavindra Ekanayake's 8-2 win at
No. 1. Kassie Seger and Stephanie Williamson won 8-5 at No. 3
doubles, followed by Katie Griffith and Kylie Hornbeck also won 8-5
at the second position.
Ekanayake then won her second point of the day 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3
singles, then Vassar scored its first win of the day at No. 2
singles. Knoop clinched the victory for the Tigers with her
6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles to put Trinity ahead 5-1 at the
time. Hornbeck also won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles to finish
off the Tiger team scoring.
Trinity will continue its trip with a match at the University of
Redlands on Friday afternoon, starting at 4:00 p.m. (Central
time).
