Box Score 2 North Little Rock, Arkansas - The Tiger women's
tennis team earned a 9-0 shutout victory over Oglethorpe to open
its part in the 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Championships Tournament.
Trinity improved to 16-7 on the season with the win. The
Tigers are the top seed in the tournament, while Oglethorpe was the
ninth seed. The Petrels beat Austin College earlier in the
day, advancing to face Trinity.
The Tigers opened the match with three doubles points, which
included to 8-0 victories for Trinity's doubles teams Mackenzie
Knoop/Thavindra Ekanayake and Stephanie Williamson/Kassie
Seger.
Ekanayake also won her No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0, while Knoop
won 6-1, 6-2 from the top position in singles. Williamson
also earned one of Trinity's six singles points, winning 6-1, 6-4
at line six.
Katie Griffith and Kylie Hornbeck won 8-3 in doubles, then each
went on to earn singles victories as well. Griffith won 6-1, 3-0
(retired) at No. 3 singles, and Hornbeck breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win
at No. 4. Lavinia Bendandi finished off Trinity's scorers
with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fifth position.
Trinity will take on #4 seed Millsaps College tomorrow morning,
beginning at 8:00 a.m. The winner moves on to the SCAC
Championship on Sunday.
