Sherman, Texas - Trinity's top-ranked women's
soccer team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
weekend with a 7-0 shutout win at Austin College on Sunday
afternoon.
The Tigers remained unbeaten with an 8-0-1 overall record, and a
4-0-0 mark in conference play. Trinity is the defending SCAC
Champion, winning last year's SCAC Tournament. After earning
a #1 ranking this week, Trinity responded by outscoring its
opponents 17-0 over the weekend.
Shelby Guenthardt started the scoring in the third minute,
netting the eventual game-winning goal on an assist from Kelsey
Falcone. Guenthardt also scored the final goal of the game on
an assist from Katy Lipscomb in the 83rd minute. Lipscomb
finished with a goal and two assists for the Tigers.
Maggie Olvera and Lipscomb both had first-half goals to give
Trinity a 3-0 lead. Lipscomb and Stephanie Segovia assisted
on Olvera's goal, while Tara Sparks earned a point on Lipscomb's
goal.
Early in the second half, Jennifer White scored her first goal
of the season - coming less than three minutes after
halftime. Just under 10 minutes later, Shelby Hopkins made it
5-0 Trinity, assisted by Emily Jorgens.
Segovia then scored her seventh goal of the season in the 74th
minute, which was followed by Guenthardt's seventh goal - the final
score of the game. The two Tiger players lead the team in
scoring with 15 total points.
Trinity had three goalkeepers see action in the game, with Katie
Garrett playing the entire first half. Devan Osegueda played
just under 30 minutes in net, while Lauren Goldberg recorded the
only save for the Tigers in the final 15 minutes.
The Tigers return to action next weekend, playing a pair of
non-conference road games. Trinity opens the weekend with a
matchup of two teams ranked in the top five, facing fifth-ranked
Wheaton (IL) College on Friday. Trinity will finish the
weekend with a game against Loras College on Sunday.
