Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Austin, Texas - Trinity's women's tennis
team lost a narrow 5-4 match at Division II St. Edward's University
on Friday afternoon.
The Tigers fell to 1-4 on the season, but have played just one
match against a Division III opponent - resulting in a victory in
the team's season opener.
Trinity won two of the three doubles points to take a 2-1 lead,
but couldn't hang on to win in a very competitive singles lineup.
Four of the six singles matches needed three sets to decide
the outcome, and the teams split those four matches. St.
Edward's won the other two in straight sets.
Caroline White and Kylie Hornbeck took a narrow 8-6 win at No. 1
doubles to open the action, as did Thavindra Ekanayake and
Gabrielle Roe at the third position. The team's only doubles
loss came in a 9-7 decision at No. 2, with Kristy Hamilton and
Stephanie Williamson falling.
Ekanayake and Roe were also the only two Tiger singles players
to pull out wins at the first and fifth spots in the lineup.
Ekanayake rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1, while Roe
also came from behind to take a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Hornbeck suffered a tough 6-3, 2-6, 4-6 loss at No. 2 singles,
and Kathleen Lundquist lost 1-6, 6-0, 1-6 at No. 6 singles.
White and Hamilton lost at No. 3 and No. 4 singles,
respectively.
Trinity will finish off a busy week of action tomorrow, hosting
both Tyler Junior College and Laredo Community College in a
Saturday doubleheader. The first match starts off at 9:30
a.m.
