Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis
team lost a 6-3 match against Tyler Junior College to start the
day, but rallied to earn a Saturday split with a 9-0 sweep of
Laredo Community College.
Trinity moves to 2-5 on the season with the split, and the
Tigers have faced just one Division III opponent so far this
season. The 9-0 victory over Laredo was the second sweep of
the season for the Tigers.
The Tyler match opened with Trinity taking a 2-1 lead after
doubles as Stephanie Williamson/Kristy Hamilton and Thavindra
Ekanayake/Gabrielle Roe earned 8-5 victories. Caroline White
and Kylie Hornbeck lost 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Roe was the only Tiger player to earn a singles victory, though,
rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at the fifth position.
Tyler won in straight sets in the other five matches.
White and Hornbeck earned an 8-4 win against Laredo, while
Hamilton and Williamson took an 8-0 decision for their second win
of the day. Ekanayake and Roe won by default for the third
doubles point.
In singles play, Laura Roa won 6-3, 1-6, 10-5 at No. 1 for the
Tigers, while three other Trinity players won in straight sets.
Lavinia Bendandi won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Michelle
Gun-Munro took a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the third spot.
Williamson earned her third win of the day with a 6-0, 6-1
win at No. 4.
Trinity will not return to action until Friday, March 1, opening
play at the ITA Indoor National Championships. The Tigers
return home on March 20, hosting Johns Hopkins University at 5:00
p.m.
